We will be pleased to welcome you in Gorinchem, the fortress city of the Netherlands. A fortress city where you are surrounded by a sense of the Middle Ages. This is due in part to the fortress being the largest still intact fortress in the Netherlands. Even during corona there is much to experience and to discover, partly because this is the 400th anniversary of Hugo de Groot’s arrival in the city, after his escape, in a trunk of books, from Loevestein Castle (Slot Loevestein). The city breathes culture, history and camaraderie and lends itself more than ever to a comprehensive journey of discovery along the city walls, the alleys, the Linge harbour and the old centre.
Plenty to see & do
If you choose to stay in Hotel Karel de Stoute we will provide you with a detailed overview of all the activities and sites of interest in Gorinchem. Op dit moment zijn door de lockdown alle openbare gelegenheden nog gesloten, maar in de buitenlucht valt genoeg te beleven. There are several city walks available (with guide, if desired). You can go on the hunt for Memory Bricks. These are cobblestones in which a nostalgic object has been embedded. These are crafted by a local artist and are hidden throughout the entire inner city. Fun for the whole family, or even as a company outing!
