The Linge, once a tributary of the Waal, is now a dead river that begins at Doornenburg and via the Sluis, ends in the Merwede in Gorinchem.
Do you want to leisurely enjoy the rich river landscape that the Netherlands has to offer? The Linge is an obvious opportunity that you just can’t miss if you’re enjoying a stay at Karel de Stoute.

Book a sloop and your stay

The Linge, once a tributary of the Waal, is now a dead river that begins at Doornenburg and via the Sluis, ends in the Merwede in Gorinchem.
Do you want to leisurely enjoy the rich river landscape that the Netherlands has to offer? The Linge is an obvious opportunity that you just can’t miss if you’re enjoying a stay at Karel de Stoute.

Reserve a sloop and enjoy a relaxing sailing trip to Leerdam via Arkel. This will give you a really good idea of the activities along the Linge. You will arrive in Heukelum, passing the former stone factory; in nearby Leerdam you will see that the basis for glass, as ever, is sand that is transported over the Linge; here too you can drop anchor, get to know this lovely fortress city, grab a haring at De Graaf at Westwal 6 and then finish up with a good cup of coffee at Kikyby the side of the Linge at the City Wall.

Is it time for a more elaborate meal? Stop in at Puur Ted at Doctor C. Voogdplein 90A.

As you follow the river, you will pass villages such as Asperen, Gellicum, Rhenoy, in short: the Betuwe. You will also pass Deil at the Rijnsoever wharf, a well-known shipbuilder in water sport circles, who mainly concentrates on building flat and round steel bottoms.

From your own boat you will be amazed at the variety in the landscape, how beautiful the Netherlands is and how much space we actually have. You need to be aware that a journey to and from Deil, depending on the number of stops along the way and a swim here or there, can take a full day. Travelling over water at a speed of around 5 km/hr takes time – time that is available and which you can completely enjoy.

If you are staying at Hotel Karel de Stoute, we will be happy to arrange your sloop or bike to make this journey.
